i wanna save you I N E E D Y O U T O S A V E M E T O O - - - - - - - - - - - - 'Time is what prevents everything from happening at once.'
Jenson had heard this saying before, several times. His grandmother had always had some sort of wise quote or saying up her sleeve, and this one had popped into his mind that day. The ER was busy and Jenson was constantly on the go. His 10 hour shift was only 4 hours in and he had made 2 different trips. The first call had been bad. A young woman who had overdosed at her home. Jenson provide on site treatment and transportation back to the ER. Not long after that he was setting out again to a home where a young teenage boy had cut his wrists in front of his mother, who quickly dialed 911. There had been major blood involved in that call, and the son had been taken to ER as well. As soon as he came back to St. Mark's, he was called into a room where a middle age woman had to be re-administered an IV drip because of her defiance to cooperate. He had been in the area, so he was called, though normally he stuck to pre-hospital medical and trauma care. For him, everything (at that point) seemed to happen at once, and he felt he needed to be in several places at once.
He was almost five hours in, and it was close to 10pm. Looking around, he took notice that the ER wasn't super busy, and with a glance at the clock, he realized he was on break. He only got 30 minutes, and later he would have another 30. It was tough but people needed the EMS there. When duty called. Jenson was used to it at this point. Clunking to the lunch room in his boots, he grabbed his lunch from the fridge. He had leftover pasta from his dinner the night before. He took of the lid of the plastic container and popped it into the microwave while he leaned against the wall. Thankfully he had gotten quite a bit of sleep during the day, so he could survive his almost 12 hour shift. He gazed off towards the door across the room. The lunch room was empty and he was curious as to who else would be on break. The microwave announced it was finished with the predominate beeping, and it snapped Jenson back to the 'now'. A big black button was used to open the microwave, and Jenson reached in for his food. He wasn't all there at the time, because Jenson would have normally known better. He picked up the sides of the plastic container, only to drop it again. It was hotter then he had anticpated. Thankfully, he had only dropped it back into the microwave, not on the floor. Shaking his hands at his sides, his eyes glanced around for something to take it out with. The set not far from the microwave on a single oven mitt, which he figured would make do. Slipping it on, he grabbed the container and set it on the small table closest to him. He removed the mitt and put it back where he found it, then grabbed a fork and sat down.
Jenson was very concious of the time as he ate. He didn't need to go off in his own little world and miss a call. Digging his fork in, he wrapped the spgehetti noddles around his fork and took a large bite. He hadn't realized it before, but he was starving. His stomach let in a loud grumble as if to restate the point, and he dug in for another bite.

everytime i turn around s o m e t h i n g j u s t a i n ' t r i g h t- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Even though he loved what he had been doing, it had been quite a long day for Jason. It was only his first week interning at the hospital and he was already learning how intense it could be. There was the typical part of the job, appointments and such and then there was the actual hospital part of the job, broken bones, stitches and worse. He hadn’t seen much of the “worse” since that wasn’t going to be his major line of work, but he had seen kids well on their way to being out of the hospital, some of which would hopefully be out in a day or so. Of course, he would have to see the way the entire building ran before his actual job started, but he still had four more years of school to go, he was just getting a head start on his internship.
He had just been with a seven year old who had fallen off of his bike the day before and hit pretty hard, snapping his wrist in a few places and requiring surgery. Jason had been able to sympathize with the poor boy, knowing exactly what it was like to break his wrist and to go into surgery. The young boy was doing well, though, and Jason had got along with him quite well. He had actually spent a little more time in there than the doctor he was shadowing, playing a board game the boy’s parents had brought in and left there for him.
Honestly, it was exhausting. He had been at the hospital since one that afternoon and he had gone his entire life without working any sort of hourly job. That was one of the perks of growing up in a wealthy family, but it was also a major downfall. Now that he was starting a job, it was a totally new experience, one that quickly wore him out. Even at school when he was there all day, he still sat during his classes. At the hospital, on the other hand, he was up on his feet constantly moving around. It was a good thing he had started running again otherwise he would be even more exhausted than he was now.
As the young man headed into the lunch room, he could hear the microwave buzzing and he raised his eyebrows slightly though the other man had his back turned to him. He had expected the lunch room to be empty at ten o’clock at night. Then again, he wasn’t the only one who had been on his feet for nine hours. Some people were there all day, and he knew from his parents, when there was a shortage of staff, all night, too. Stifling a yawn, Jason sunk down into one of the chairs with a huge sigh. Jason heard the microwave beep, telling the owner of the food that it was heated but he didn’t look up as he tried to fight back another yawn, this time to no avail. In mid-yawn, he missed the other man’s slight battle with his food, only looking up as he sat down.
He hadn’t realized how hungry he was until he smelled the reheated spaghetti, his stomach rumbling slightly. Shrugging it off, he reminded himself he only had an hour to go and he was going to have to get use to this. Sure, his vacation back to his old home in New York was coming up rather quickly, he was leaving in two days, but after that, everything only became busier. He would be starting school again less than a week after his plane landed back in Salt Lake and this year his studies would be harder than they had been. This year marked the start of med school for Jason; he was no longer a pre med student. Nodding his head in acknowledgement as the other man sat down, he sighed wondering what Anabel was up to. No, they weren’t living together again, and he missed that, but he couldn’t help but wonder what she was doing when he wasn’t around. Oh, he trusted her, he didn’t think she was with another man, but he knew that she was always on his mind when he wasn’t doing anything, he couldn’t help but wonder if it was the same with her.

i wanna save you I N E E D Y O U T O S A V E M E T O O - - - - - - - - - - - - In his own hunger, Jenson had hardly realized he had company. Looking up after shoveling a fork full of noodles into his mouth, he eyed the other guy over for a moment. It was someone he had never seen before. He figured it happened enough in the hospital. Faces came, faces went. Not just with patients, but staff too. There were always new interns, people leaving, new people coming in. But what surprised him was the fact it was someone new in the lunch room. There were lunch rooms on each floor, and Jenson knew at least the name and face of everyone who shared one with him, if not the person. But the young man in front of him was completely unfamiliar.
Swallowing what was in his mouth, Jenson gave a 'friendly' nod to Jason. "New here?" he asked him in a casual tone, not wanting it to seem like he was starting something. Jenson wouldn't do that and most people with common sense wouldn't do it on the job, to get reported or anything. That wasn't the reason Jenson wasn't, he just wouldn't. You know? Twirling his fork through his pasta he tossed down another fork full.
His guess? This guy was an intern, or a paramedic. He looked young to be a doctor or surgeon. But then again, maybe he was. You never knew. Though he looked about the same age as Jesnson, he had seen some pretty young staff lately throughout the hospital. There was also a new heard of interns heading in and out, so maybe that's why he hadn't seen this guy before. The last week or so at St. Mark's had been busy, with new staff and tons of patients, in and out, in and out.

everytime i turn around s o m e t h i n g j u s t a i n ' t r i g h t- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stifling yet another yawn, Jason pressed his palms into his eyes, knowing it was going to be a while before he got use to being on his feet all the time. He figured it might help if he got back into shape, started running again. Maybe then he wouldn’t be quite as worn out as he was. After his car had been totaled, he had a reason to lounge around on his couch; it was hard to run with broken ribs. Actually, it was more like impossible. Once he had finally been let out of the hospital, this exact one, he hadn’t even been able to walk up his steps for another week so running had definitely been out of the question. And once he started to feel better, he needed a second surgery, which pushed running back even farther. Shortly after that, he and Ana had a falling out and he started drinking and well, alcohol and running didn’t mix. It was about time for him to get back into it.
Pulling his hands from his face and running one through his dark curls, he looked up as he heard the other man’s voice, catching the end of his friendly nod. “Yep,” he replied simply, nodding his head slightly as he did. It seemed like the entire staff knew everyone else who worked there, especially on their particular floor or area where they worked, at least until other interns came in. For Jason, it was more of learning the ropes now since he still had a couple years of school to go before he could really start working, but it would definitely help when the time came. Glancing up at the clock, he had to hold back a groan. He had only sat down two minutes ago. He knew as soon as he got home he was letting his dog out and then crashing in bed if he even made it that far. If he didn’t, his couch was comfortable enough; he could sleep there for the night, even if his little Australian shepherd wasn’t crazy about the idea since she usually slept beside him on his king sized bed.
With a little sigh he let his mind wander a bit, back to the seven year old with the broken wrist. That kid was so sweet and completely adorable. And that seven year old had more courage than he did when it came to surgery. When Jason had been in there, listening to the doctor explain to the boy’s parents and then make it easier for the kid to understand, it had made Jason cringe and rub his still-injured wrist as the thought of having it sliced open, but the seven year old had just shrugged and said okay, not seeming to be bothered at all at the thought. Perhaps it was because when Jason had undergone his first surgery he had been much older and understood a little bit better what was going on or because his parents were surgeons and he heard more than the average person did about what happened during an operation, including some of the possible side effects of the anesthetic. His nose wrinkled again at the thought of ever needing another operation done for any reason and with another little sigh, a fleeting thought crossed his mind, glad he wasn’t going to see a lot of the sicker children in the hospital; that would not be easy for him to do.

i wanna save you I N E E D Y O U T O S A V E M E T O O - - - - - - - - - - - - As he scarfed down the plate of pasta before him, Jenson was thankful he packed a large dinner. Not only was he hungrier then he realized, but the pasta would give him an boost of energy for the rest of his shift. He'd be able to work it all off if he was lucky. Hopefully things wouldn't slow down around here. Either way, he'd need to hit the gym the next day. Jenson was real into working out. It kept him in shape and ready for whatever his job through at him. It also kept him in shape so he could keep up with his younger brother when they hung out. Not to mention it did help him to look good. It was also a place for him to just get away, turn on his iPod and stay healthy and busy.
"Yep." Jenson gave another nod as he got a reply from the guy before him. With one last bite, he finished off his dinner and stood up. His car scraped across the floor tiles as he pushed it out. Moving to the small counter he dropped the container into the sink and ran it under hot water. Grabbing the bottle of liquid soap he slopped some into the plastic and grabbed a clean sponge from the cupboard. It didn't take long to clean the container. Once it was done, he dropped it into the dish rack and sat back down in his seat, propping his feet up on the empty chair beside him. "Intern?" he questioned, quite sure of the answer to come.
Jenson sat back, ready to just lounge. There was still another 25 minutes left of his break, and he would use it to stay off his feet. Sure, he loved his job very much. It was what he always wanted. But it did take a lot of energy. Jenson loved being on his feet in a fast past environment, but knew the toll that would be on him if he didn't take the breaks he needed.
