The drive from Colonie to New York City was much longer than Jason remembered it, though that could have been because the trip was usually spent with his family or the promise he would be back before two in the morning. Instead, this time the promise was that it wouldn’t be two years before he saw them again. He knew he had missed them, he had known that from the minute he left the city, but what he didn’t realize was how much. He had spent hours talking to his parents, his little brother and his friends on the phone and for a while that had seemed like enough. They were staying in touch, that was the main thing. Even after a while of being away, his ex had called him up and they talked things out, coming to the conclusion that neither one of them wanted to just stop talking; they had been friends way to long for that to happen, but by then Jason had already been accepted to the University of Utah for that semester and there wasn’t much time for him to get back to New York and apply there. From there, things had changed so rapidly and two years had gone by in what seemed like the blink of an eye.
The goodbyes hadn’t been easy, but Dylan’s had been the hardest of them all. The eight year old did not want his brother to go. When he had asked Jason how long it would be before he saw him again and Jason hadn’t been able to give him a definite answer, well, his heart practically broke when he saw the little boy’s face fall. He hadn’t realized just how much the boy had grown since he left home and seeing it made him realize just what he had been missing. If he had a do over, he would still leave New York since he wouldn’t be with Ana if he didn’t, but he’d make sure to visit a lot more often. Saying goodbye had not been fun and when Jason left Ana on the porch to take their bags to the car, a few tears had ran down his handsome face when he realized he really didn’t know how long it would be before he saw them again. He managed to collect himself before he went back to give them each one last hug, but it hadn’t been easy. He missed them, it was as simple as that.
Three hours after their departure from his old home, they were back in the city. The plan had originally been to leave his house so it would still be light out by the time they got to the city, but that hadn’t worked out and they ended up leaving around six that evening. Since it was fall in the city, Jason had pulled out one of his light weight jackets that he brought with him and tossed it in the back seat, putting it on before they had returned their rental car. Jason knew very well it was not worth having a car while in the city. Parking was almost impossible to find and expensive and getting from place to place took forever; it was much easier to just walk everywhere.
The sleeves on Jason’s jacket were rolled up to his elbows by the time they left their hotel, an irritated look crossing his face as he tried to scratch an itch beneath the brace that was on his wrist again, giving up with a sigh and slipping his arm around Ana’s waist. After he had told his parents about his infidelity, his drinking and finally his broken wrist, they had taken him to the hospital one day when they were working to get it looked at. Somehow he had lucked out and he didn’t need to face the knife again. And he managed to convince his parents not to trap him in a cast as long as he promised to wear the brace except when he was in the shower for the next few weeks. It was irritating, yes, but not nearly as bad as a cast would have been for him.
“So what do you think of the hotel?” he asked with a grin. It was a nice hotel, but he figured it wouldn’t hurt to spoil her, even if they really weren’t going to be in the hotel all that much. The room they were in was a bit more than the standard room, but they were on higher floors and he figured she’d love a higher view of Manhattan. That was half of the reason he picked that hotel. Usually when he went with his family they’d stay in one of the less expensive, chain hotels, but they had gone to a few others and this was one of them Jason absolutely loved. And, well, Jason and Dylan had found out the beds were quite good for jumping on when Sophie and Jake had gone down to the front desk for one reason or another. Somehow, neither one of them managed to get hurt.
The more he thought about it, the happier he was they hadn’t arrived until it was dark out; Times Square was lovely when it was lit up at night. Tilting his head back to look at the huge buildings, he sighed quite contently, pulling his fiancé to him with a smile. “What do you think?” he asked quietly, looking down at her affectionately. This was practically where he grew up. Well, not quite, but it was still a big part of his life. Between the two of them, he figured they’d need an extra suitcase to get all of the clothes they’d buy back to Utah. Chuckling to himself at the thought, he glanced to a few stores ahead of them, grinning as he steered her into it, knowing how she was with shoe stores. “Have fun,” he teased, kissing the top of her head before he slid his arm from around her waist so she could try on the shoes she liked.

ANA COULDN'T HELP BUT FEEL A TOUCH SAD to be leaving as they drove south, though she supposed a lot of that had to do with his mood and her tendency to just naturally adopt his as her own. She did that with everyone she was close to, really, and so needless to say his sad little smile at her when she'd woken up had just kind of colored the rest of her day, at least until they'd finally gotten into the city. The drive there had just been kind of quiet, comfortably so, but all the same. Playing the letters game by herself had fast gotten monotonous and after a while she'd ended up dozing off until he woke her up in the airport's parking garage so he could return the car.
WATCHING HER BOYFRIEND CROUCH DOWN next to his little brother to give him a hug, it had struck her just how unfair it was that he had to be so far away from his family and yet she had her mother ten, fifteen minutes away. Of course the alternative would be to reverse their roles and have Annie's mom a several hour flight away. She almost questioned though if it would really affect her that much. They were close, yes, but it was actually sort of rare they hung out to do more than talk. Then again, Jason had seemed content with phone calls for a long time when it really hadn't been enough. She didn't know if she'd ever really find herself calling this town home, though she wanted to finish school at the U first. Seeing Dylan's face fall at Jason's incapability to answer him definitely pulled at her heart strings and she almost wanted to start planning their next trip, then and there, just so he would know it wasn't going to be ages. They'd be there for the wedding though, and chances were Dylan was going to be their ring bearer, so it couldn't be two years again since Annie refused to wait that long.
WHEN HE'D STEPPED DOWN THE COUPLE OF STEPS to put their bags in the trunk she'd shuffled for a moment before looking up at his parents with a thoughtful look. "Think you guys could fly out for Thanksgiving or Christmas?" She brushed a strand of straight blond hair out of her face with a little shrug, "He misses you all like crazy," she said a bit more quietly, slipping her hands in the front pockets of her jeans just as he hopped back up onto the porch to join them. He'd never said that straight out, she just kind of knew, even before they'd taken this trip and she knew it would just make his day for them to come to Utah. She almost wished she could surprise him for Christmas, but she knew it would be hard to explain excessive cooking and cleaning unless she made up quite the story. She'd give it some thought; it would probably be easier to celebrate Thanksgiving together, but then again she really did kind of want to try and give him the best Christmas gift she could think of.
THE SOMBER MOOD HAD SLIPPED AWAY THOUGH BY the time they headed out of the hotel to explore Manhattan, Anabel's expression one of complete excitement as she looked all around at the brightness of the city. Her blue eyes shone as she gazed around herself, honestly never having been anyplace this big. It just made Salt Lake look like a small town. Of course she knew New York was going to be huge, she just hadn't really comprehended it until now. She looked up at him with a smile, her face falling a touch at his scowl before she realized why. Slipping her arm around his waist she smiled up at him before shrugging, her voice sounding hopelessly optimistic, "Could be a cast." She couldn't help but giggle when she thought about that, "You'd be whacking me upside the head every time we went to snuggle," she teased him with an affectionate look. She really had thought they would have to break it again and put it in a mess of plaster, so when he'd shown up with just a better brace she'd been rather surprised, though happy he hadn't had to go through that.
SHE GRINNED WHEN HE ASKED HER HOW SHE LIKED the hotel. "I love it," she said, the excitement still in her voice. They walked a few steps before her eyes darted to the side with a suspicious look, "By the way, what were you saying earlier about the beds," she asked him with a smile, only hearing something about him and Dylan and beds over the noise in the lobby. She truly did like their room though. She had never stayed anywhere that nice before. Whenever they had gone somewhere, both her parents had proved rather good at driving until they found something for under thirty dollars. It had gotten to where it sort of bugged her the older she got, though when she was younger it really hadn't. As usual he was spoiling her, but she couldn't say she minded.
"IT'S BEAUTIFUL," SHE TOLD HIM WITH A LITTLE smile, wondering how he'd left it behind. Obviously she was glad he had, but it truly was lovely here. The bright lights, the noisy traffic, it was just plain invigorating. Her eyes lit up a bit more when she noticed the sign for Beauty and the Beast, her all-time favorite Disney movie. She wasn't sure he'd want to see that, though. There were probably better things she hadn't heard of. She looked back forward as he guided her into a store, clearly excited to see shoes, the thought that had just crossed his mind crossing hers as she gazed at the suede and shiny leather around her. As he let her go she grinned, "Oh, I love you," she said, giving him a kiss on the cheek before gravitating toward a shiny pair of lace-up shoe boots.
BY THE TIME THEY LEFT SHE WAS HOLDING A HEAVY bag in the hand not entwined with his, still taking in the overload of things all around her. She was slowly starting to tune out the street vendors around them until one stepped out in front of them with 'Obama condoms,' making her turn a shade of red that only got deeper when he said he had her stimulus package right there and called her baby. Even so as the finally got away from him she burst out laughing, trying to take the encounter in stride as she looked up at her fiancé with a raised eyebrow. "Wow," she commented with a laugh, resting her head for a moment against his shoulder as they weaved through the crowds.
TURNING HER EYES TO THE STORE WINDOWS SHE gasped, pointing to one of the mannequins when he looked down to see what she was so excited about. "Yellow jeans," she told him with enthusiasm, pulling him with her into the store. Granted, yes, she had hated it when he'd had a pair before, but whatever, she'd gotten over it. And he had said he wanted a pair, hadn't he? Instantly she found the shelf with skinny jeans in quite a few colors other than yellow, though she stuck to those, looking at the numbers on the stickers until she found his size. "Here, try these on," she said with a giggle, tossing them at him and giving him a gentle push toward the back of the store where the dressing room was.

After getting a taxi back to their hotel, Jason’s mood greatly improved. He missed seeing his family all the time, but he knew sooner or later he’d have his own family. Sure, it would be nice be back in New York, but that would require dragging Ana away from her mom and he wasn’t going to do that.. It had been his choice to leave the city he grew up in. Besides, Annie still had a few years of school to go and after she was done, he’d have a year or two left. He’d just have to make sure he came back to visit them more often or even better, they’d come out to see him. Glancing down at his fiancé as she wrapped her arm around him, he chuckled at her optimistic tone. “If it had been any doctor besides my parents, it would have been,” he pointed out with a little grin. There were a few pluses to having medical parents. His eyes rolled playfully when she said he’d be hitting her with the cast all the time. “Or I‘d be whacking myself on the head.” That, too, was rather likely with the way he was. Oh, he was definitely thankful it wasn’t a cast, but nothing would have been better than anything.
His eyebrows rose in a pretend-surprised way when she asked about the hotel beds, a little smirk crossing his face. “Did I mention the beds?” Laughing, he put his arm around her shoulder and lowered his head so it was closer to hers. Their height different was nice most of the time, but there were times where it could be a little irritating, like when he wanted to say something for her ears only. “Well, they‘re better for much more than just sleeping in,” he teased in a suggestive tone, smirking at her. He knew they weren’t doing that as of now in their relationship; the way he saw it, she’d have to be the first one to bring it up so he was sure she was ready. He didn’t want to make her feel pressured into anything. “No, Dylan and I found out they were very good for, uh, jumping on a while ago,” he said with a little laugh. “And no, I didn‘t need stitches after that.”
As Ana’s eyes lit up at the large flier for the Disney play, he knew what they’d be going to see on the night they went to go see the Broadway play. It was a cute story, but then again, he couldn’t say he hated watching Disney movies. He actually didn’t mind sitting around and watching the children’s movies; some of them had some very cute stories behind them. They were classics, it was hard not to enjoy them. Leading her into the store, he couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction, smiling as she kissed him on the cheek. “Oh, we all know it‘s the shoes you love,” he teased, knowing that she really did mean it when she said she loved him. The way things ended up wouldn’t have happened if it was only his money that she was interested in.
Jason’s eyebrows rose a bit, slightly amused at the product the street vendor was holding, his eyes narrowing only when the vendor called his girlfriend ‘baby’. With a perfectly straight face, he untangled his fingers from Annie‘s and slid his arm around her waist. Only she would know that it was less affectionate right then and more of a protective gesture. “Thanks, but we have no need for condoms right now. We‘re trying to start a family.” Squeezing Ana’s waist as he finished the sentence, he gave her a little tug and stepped away from the street vendor, a humored look crossing his face as he glanced down at Ana, wondering what her reaction to that was going to be. It bothered him to no end that the man had called his fiancé baby, though he knew it was just the way the idiots on the street could be. It was nice to feel her head on his shoulder, reminding him that she was his and no street vendor was going to change it.
He laughed a bit as she pointed out the yellow jeans, still humored about their encounter with the street vendor. He supposed they didn’t show those sort of things to larger groups of people and usually when he was in the city, he was with his parents and Dylan or his friends. Never had he gone just with his girlfriend. Shaking his head, he followed behind her as she pulled him into the store. Hadn’t she made it quite clear she hated his yellow jeans before? Shrugging to himself, he took the pair she found in his side and headed off towards the dressing rooms. Tugging the pants on, he smirked before stepping out of the little room, looking over to where his girlfriend was standing. “They fit nicely,” he said simply, laughing as he spun around, pretending to model them for her. With a roll of his eyes, he went back in to the mirrored room and changed back into his pants, hanging onto the yellow ones. “I think I‘m going to get one of the purple pairs, too,” he said, completely serious as he headed back over to the rack where she had picked up the yellow pants, picking out a pair of purple ones in the same size. He was about to head over to the register when he saw some graphic t-shirts he was quite fond of, one of which was a blue color with brightly colored parrots on it, going through them and grabbing a few of those and adding them to his clothing collection.
Weaving in and out of the crowd proved to be an effort, even though it was later in the evening. Jason led the way, letting Ana stop in any store she appeared to be interested in. After they both picked up something or another in yet another store, Jason laughed, taking her bags from her. “We‘re going to have to buy an extra suitcase to get everything home.” Sure, he was teasing, but the way things were going it was definitely possible that could happen. His eyes lit up like a little kid’s as they passed a huge toy store and he burst out laughing, realizing what a little kid he still was. “Come on!” Taking Annie’s hand, he pulled her in, looking at the ferris wheel that was inside of the toy store. “Shall we?”

ANNIE'S BLUE EYES LOOKED UP AT HER FIANCÉ with a humored look when he sarcastically asked if he'd mentioned the beds and she nodded, "You did." She smiled as he looped a long arm about her thin shoulders with a laugh and dipped his head, knowing something enticing was about to come from his lips by how close he had lowered himself. A light blush rose up her neck and a silly giggle escaped her at his words, "Oh, you mean like watching tv and stuff," she responded innocently, winking at him. It wasn't the answer he had expected, she was sure. She brushed a lock of straight blond hair from her eyes as he gave her a less taunting answer, laughing at the image. She couldn't say she was surprised though; he was just that way, an even bigger kid than she was. She grinned at him when he said he hadn't gotten any stitches, having been about to ask about that. "Maybe we'll have to test both when we get back to the room," she tempted with a little smirk of her own. She didn't like to plan that kind of thing so she hadn't really meditated on how she'd feel about taking that step, but if it felt right then she wasn't going to stop it from happening. The chance wasn't really going to come up much once they were back in school and she was back to living in her apartment.
ANABEL SNICKERED WHEN HE REMARKED IT WAS only the shoes she loved. She shrugged a bit, looking back at him as she picked the dainty shoe boots up with a fond look, "You're right," she said, pulling out a pair of size sevens and sitting down on a little bench to try them on, "It is." Slipping her left converse and sock off, replacing the sock with a little footie, she slid the shoe onto her dainty little foot. She sighed dreamily, teasing him as she gazed adoringly at the shoe and said the words she would only ever seriously say to him, "'Till death do us part." She giggled at his response and pulled the shoe off, setting it carefully in its box before gravitating toward another pair that caught her eye, sure she was in heaven.
THE BLOND STARTED A BIT AT THE YOUNG MAN that appeared before them, stopping them in their tracks. She gazed at the red, white, and blue piece of latex as he turned his attention on her, tossing out catchy little slogans. This was quite the city, wasn't it? You'd certainly never see this kind of thing in Utah. She personally didn't really care that he called her baby, she was used to hearing it from guys that thought she was easy, but she could tell Jason did care as he put his strong arm around her waist. She didn't blame him for it, she could be just as possessive; it visibly annoyed her when anyone else called him Jay. Her eyes widened at Jason's words and she just smiled at the man as her boyfriend led her away. She burst into laughter once they were far enough from the vendor, glancing up at him with silent curiosity as they weaved through the crowds. Trying to start a family? She found it interesting that was the excuse he picked to get out of that situation, though she knew he hadn't meant it. At least she hoped not. Shrugging, she set her head on his shoulder reassuringly in hopes of unfurrowing his perturbed bushy eyebrows. The man was just doing his job; it had meant nothing to either of them. If he didn't want guys saying those sort of things to his girl he should have picked a less attractive woman to date.
HANDING THE PAIR OF YELLOW PANTS TO HIM, SHE rolled her eyes. "Only 'cause I feel bad for throwing the old ones away," she said before telling him to go try them on. She walked a bit slower behind him, shaking her head and mumbling to herself, "Which isn't to say that won't happen to these." No, she wasn't fond of them, but he liked them and that was what mattered. She was past her trivial hatred and she didn't want to be one of those pushy obnoxious wives that wouldn't let him do things he wanted to. Leaning against the wall next to the door he'd disappeared behind, she waited for him to come out. A single eyebrow rose when he stepped out, rolling her eyes when he said they fit nicely. "Oh they fit nicely alright," she replied sarcastically, staring at the skin-tight fit of them. And he wondered why she'd never wanted to be just friends. Not that she could say much since most of her jeans were skinnies, too. She snorted when he said he was going to get a pair in purple as well, "Just don't wear those when you want to get laid," she advised as she followed him back to the colorful piles of jeans, counting her blessings that he didn't reach for the hot pink ones.
ANNIE LAUGHED AS HE TOOK HER BAGS, NODDING her head when he said they were going to need an extra suitcase. In addition to the four pairs of shoes she'd gotten earlier she had since added a light pink silk tiered dress, a super soft sweater, jeans, and a purse. She stared as they walked by what had to be the biggest toy store she'd ever seen, laughing as he pulled her inside with quite a bit of enthusiasm. Her eyes widened to see a ferris wheel of toys in the middle of the entrance, grinning at his words and squeezing his hand, "Definitely." Joining the long line of people waiting she gazed around, staring at the life-size Barbie house and animatronic T-Rex. "This place is awesome," she said as she looked around at the kids there, thinking of how much cooler it would be if she were five and not twenty. Leaning against him a bit she smiled, deciding they would have to take their kids here someday.

His eyebrows rose a bit, surprised at her innocent response, a little grin crossing his face. “Exactly. Watching TV, playing games. You know,” he shrugged, wiping the hinting look off of his face. “Stuff.” He pretended he didn’t notice her wink, looking almost bored with the subject. Glancing over at her, he smiled as she giggled. It was definitely something he would do, especially with his little brother. He was still a kid at heart, even at twenty two, getting close to twenty three. And even with age, he hadn’t become more coordinated. Anybody who knew him had seen him trip over himself at some point in time and it wasn’t like it was an unusual thing to happen. That was why he was sure to mention that no, he hadn’t ended up with stitches holding his skin together after bouncing on the hotel beds with his brother and by the look on Annie’s face, he had a feeling she had been gong to ask.
Somehow, Jason managed to completely miss the smirk on her face as she said they should try both when they arrived back at their hotel. Instead, he grinned, his eyes on the lit up buildings surrounding them. “Sounds great, our own personal trampoline and cartoons. It‘ll be just like…six months ago,” he teased, leaning over and kissing the top of her head. Perhaps he had missed her smirk because the thought of having sex again had been on his mind, but he didn’t want to bring it up. He was afraid if he suggested it and she agreed, some sour memories could pop up and that was the last thing he wanted. It had just sort of been pushed aside; he figured when she was ready she could suggest it. They couldn’t stay away from it forever, that much he knew. With both of them wanting a family, it would have to happen eventually. And wasn’t like he wanted to wait, he was just afraid. Afraid that if they did and the memories did arise, it would hurt them both to the point that their relationship wouldn’t work.
He watched her slip her shoe off and replace it with the new one, shaking his head when she said he was right. Chuckling at her dreamy sigh, he pulled out his wallet when she said those five words, a serious look on his face. He grabbed one of his credit cards from it and dropped it on her lap, pretending to look rather hurt. “I guess you don‘t need me then,” he said sadly, turning towards the door where they had walked in. Only a few paces from the door, he turned back, resting a hand on her shoulder when he was close enough. Even though he had spent a lot of his childhood in the city, he didn’t trust anyone there enough to leave her alone. Every city had their crazy people, but none of them would be getting their hands on her while he was around.
That didn’t stop the man selling the patriotic colored condoms from trying. Though Jason knew if anything was going to happen while they were in the city, they would have to pick some up, he wasn’t going to buy them from a street vendor, much less one who had called his girlfriend baby. He knew Ana might be intrigued by the behavior of people in the city since there weren’t people who did this sort of thing in Salt Lake. Of course, New York was much more touristy than Utah, so he could understand why. The locals walking through in their business suits midday wouldn’t be bothered by the street vendors, but any tourists would be considered fair game to them. Tilting his head to look at Ana, he grinned at her laughed and shrugged. “What? It was the best excuse I could come up with to get away from him. ‘We don‘t practice safe sex’ is a rather lame excuse and that only happens when we‘re too…lazy to go upstairs,” he said with a laugh, squeezing her waist. “And it just wouldn‘t be fair to tell him we don‘t do that sort of thing.” Besides, he had a feeling the man wouldn’t have bought that lie. It seemed like most people these days didn’t seem to do that sort of thing and the man could have tried to convince them to buy them for another reason. The look on his face had been rather priceless at Jason’s excuse, though, and he figured that was worth telling him there was a family on the way. Well there was. It just wouldn’t be around for a couple years. He sighed as she rested her head on his shoulder, squeezing her waist again. It still bothered him that the man on the streets had thought it was okay to call a woman he could obviously tell was in a relationship something so affectionate, especially when that woman was in a relationship with him. Pushing the thoughts aside, he looked down at her with a little smile, resting his lips on her head for a moment. Trying to release the tension from the situation he grinned at her. “Just wait until you see the naked cowboy.” Then again, maybe that wouldn’t be a good thing.
The man’s words were completely forgotten by the time they were shopping for his yellow jeans again and he laughed when she hinted at the possibility that these jeans could also end up in the trash. “Hey, if you have your yellow pants, I have mine.” He grinned when she said they fit nicely and he laughed. “Oh just admit it, you like them. ” Picking a pair of the purple pants from the rack, his eyes rested on the hot pink ones and he looked at Annie, wiggling his eyebrows and laughing. He couldn’t exactly see himself wearing them, though, so they remained untouched as he went to look at the t-shirts. He burst out laughing when she told him not to wear them when he wanted to get laid. “Birth control pants. I like the idea.” Sticking his tongue out at her, he laughed again and rolled his dark eyes.
He had almost forgotten about the large toy store in the city, but now he remembered how it had always been one of his favorite places to stop. With a giant ferris wheel, doll house and dinosaur, how could it not be? Chuckling as they stood in line for the ferris wheel, he watched it spin around and around, remembering one of their first dates when they had decided to try things again at the Utah State Fair and just how good it had felt to hear her tell him she loved him while they were spinning around. When they finally were next, he laughed as he saw the M ‘n M’s car they were getting into. Leaning towards her, he laughed. “I wish they were made out of real chocolate,” he said, looking at the size of the characters. He had a feeling she wouldn’t disagree.
By the time they had decided to head back to the room, they had added quite a few more bags to their collection. Clothes, shoes, even some toys from the giant Toys ’R Us had been bought. Sighing, Jason slid the card into the hotel room door and opened it up, setting their bags down by the closet. “So, what do you think of the view?” he asked, looking out the window at the brightly lit city. It wasn’t a new site for him, but he knew it was for her. He grinned as he looked around at the stylish room, picking up the TV remote and turning it on before he kicked off his shoes, sitting them beside the dresser and climbed on the bed, flashing her a grin. Bending his knees, he bounced up and down a few times, laughing. “See? Perfect for bouncing and watching TV.” Flopping down onto his butt, he stood up and gave her a hug before he stepped to the side, taking his jacket off and pulling his shirt off over his head, tossing them into one of the chairs, his pants soon following. He hesitated for a moment, taking half a step towards his suitcase before shrugging and pulling the sheets back on the bed. He could survive one night without a shirt, right? Ana had made it rather clear his scars didn’t bother her half as much as they bothered him.

WHY THE TEASING LOOK DROPPED OFF HIS FACE AT her fake innocence she had no idea. She'd winked for a reason and he knew Ana wasn't really innocent. She would have just played along, but she'd thought it would be funner to tease him a bit more subtly. Her face was a bit puzzled when he mentioned cartoons. She was a bit surprised at just how dense he seemed to be right now, shaking her head. They weren't that far from that step were they? She certainly hoped not. As she had expected, sleeping beside him every night was a temptation. She'd forgotten just how good his warm body felt curled against hers. It would feel even better, she knew, completely bare against her own naked form. A shaky little sigh escaped her at the thought, the gaze she shot at him rather lustful. It was him she was worried about more than herself and she wasn't sure if she needed to be waiting on him or if she should be the one to make a move. But as always she came to the same resolve; it would just happen in its own time.
AS THE BLUE PIECE OF PLASTIC FELL INTO HER LAP Annie looked up from the shiny leather boot with an amused look, holding her laugh back as he walked away from her. Slipping the shoe back off she leaned around the edge of the shelf, watching to see how far he was going to go. She knew he wouldn't go far; he was too protective of her to just leave her in the middle of a city she was unfamiliar with. Annie wasn't stupid, but she did tend to attract trouble. She glanced up as he rested a big hand on her shoulder, setting the shoe box aside. Standing up in front of him she looked at him with faux seriousness, setting her hands on his chest, "Oh baby, I still need you for the sex," she told him playfully, giving him a little kiss.
ANNIE WOULD HAVE TO ADMIT SHE HAD BEEN A BIT fascinated by the street vendor, having never really seen anything like that. To her it was kind of exciting, not to mention his product was rather unique, to her at any rate. There were probably tens of other guys selling the same thing around the city. She stared at him quizically until he exclaimed 'What?,' shaking her head at his explanation. She had to laugh when he mentioned their occasional laziness and squeezed her waist. "Hey, that was only," she looked at her fingers holding one and then two up, laughing, "Twice." Anabel shook her head a bit when he said they couldn't say they didn't do that. Well they didn't, at the moment. She shook her head, smiling a bit, "You could have just scowled and claimed we voted for McCain," she teased. She giggled after a moment, "Then again, he probably had those, too." Shaking her head she dropped it against his shoulder with a little sigh, thinking what it would be like to say they were starting a family for real. She resented how far away that was. She pulled away with her nose wrinkled when he mentioned the naked cowboy, completely confused. All she knew was it sounded kind of, well, dirty. "Jay, I don't know what you have planned for the hotel room, but..." she said slowly, looking at him with a teasing look, despite her confusion.
HER EYES ROLLED WHEN HE MENTIONED HER yellow capris that she'd only recently acquired. "Then do your own laundry," she teased him, though she hadn't minded doing it at all when they were living together. She'd only thrown the old ones away because he'd ticked her off earlier in the day; and because she just generally did hate them. She sighed as he grabbed a pair of the purple jeans, her eyes widening as he silently teased her about the hot pink ones. "Don't. Even. Think. About. It," she laughed with a shake of her head. Following him to look at the shirts she stuck her tongue out right back at him when he called them birth control pants, wrapping her arms around him from behind, gazing around him at the shirts. "You say that now," she half-purred so only he would hear, smiling at his response.
THEY WERE PROBABLY THE OLDEST PEOPLE IN the Toys R' Us without kids she realized as they looked around. It wasn't really surprising though to anyone that knew them. Not to mention, Ana liked ferris wheels, especially the ones with little two passenger seats like there'd been at the state fair only a few weeks ago. They were so much nicer for cuddling. She remembered with a little smile how their last ride had gone. That smile grew when their car stopped. They were all fun shapes, but this had been one of her favorites when she'd been examining the different cars, simply because she loved MMs. She giggled at his words, nodding and saying something in agreement as they slid into the car. She was surprised no one had thought to do that yet for at least the really rich MM lovers.
ANABEL'S FEET WERE DRAGGING BY THE TIME THEY got back to their room. The tired feeling that had been building had finally hit her on the walk back, interupted by their run in with the naked cowboy. The picture someone had taken with Ana's camera of both of them with the aging half-naked man was going on her computer's desktop when they got home. She perked back up though when he directed her toward the windows, heading over with widened tired blue eyes to admire the view of the city from thirty-four stories up, trying to take it all in. She turned when she heard the bed spring squeal, pulling her shoes off as quickly as she could and hopping up next to him, her bubbly laughter filling the room. When he flopped down she lost her balance, falling with him. She giggled when he told her it was indeed perfect for tv and jumping, slipping off the bed to go change when he enveloped her in a hug. "Now we just have one last thing to try," she said quietly with a sultry little grin over her shoulder as she slid away to her suitcase.
PULLING A PAIR OF CHERRY-PRINTED BOXERS, a white cami, and a purple leopard print thong out of her suitcase, she picked up the magazine she'd bought from a news stand on their way back and tossed it on the bed. It was a honeymoon magazine that she'd just happened to see and she'd bought it. "Find us someplace sexy," she told him before disappearing into the bathroom. Shutting the door her eyebrows furrowed, wondering if she'd just seen what she thought she had, and she popped her head back out. She laughed as she stared at his boxers, grinning when he looked over at her, "Nice boxers," she teased before slipping back behind the door to change. It didn't take her long before she reemerged in her pajamas and glasses. Dropping her old clothes next to her suitcase she flopped onto the bed, making it bounce before pushing the covers back and sliding into bed beside him. Rolling onto her side she gave him a kiss, her fingers feeling the hairs on his chest. It was rare he didn't pull a shirt on, despite her promises that the scars truly didn't bother her.
"SO," SHE SAID AS SHE LIFTED HERSELF A BIT, resting against him, "Have you found anything perfect?" She was finding she loved planning their wedding, maybe a bit too much. Sighing, she looked down at the glossy pages, watching them turn lazily. Now that she was laying down she was starting to tire again. She was about to say they should just go on to sleep when her eyes widened, "Stop. Look." Leaning up she pointed to the page with a picture of a pretty beach with a castle in the background. She read the little column of words in a corner of the page; it was perfect for them, an island in Spain. Finishing the little bit of information she smiled coyly, raising her eyebrows suggestively, "Private beaches," she teased with a giggle. "Mallorca sounds like my kind of place," she told him with a little laugh, giving him a quick kiss.

Jason knew better than to leave his fiancé in the middle of New York City. She might have been able to take care of herself, but he didn’t appreciate the looks some of the other guys would shoot her if he wasn’t attached to her, though that tended to happen wherever they were. No, if anything happened to her, he’d feel horrible and if any guy tried to hit on her, well, they’d have another thing coming. Returning to her side, he smiled, letting her keep the card since she was getting the shoes. He opened his mouth to reassure her he’d never leave her there, but he was stopped by her words. His eyebrows furrowed in a humored way as a couple different emotions flickered across his face. He wasn’t quite sure how to take her outburst, not because he believed her but because they hadn’t really talked about that since they got back together. After a moment, he smiled and sighed rather sarcastically. “So that‘s why I‘m part of this relationship, I finally understand.” Of course he knew there was more to it than just that, but he just had to give her a hard time after her remark.
Spending a good part of his childhood shopping in New York City, the street vendors didn’t really surprise Jason anymore and when they pulled stunts like the one they had just ran into did, they didn’t amuse him, either. The young man was just lucky Jason wasn’t the violent type. He chuckled when Ana counted up their lazy times, tilting his head a bit. “Only twice?” He shrugged, pretending to be surprised. He laughed at her solution to the problem, shaking his head. “Okay, I didn‘t think of that. I‘m a guy and when some guy shoves condoms in my girlfriend‘s face my first response isn‘t to think of what kind they are, but to keep him from hitting on my baby anymore,” he grinned, giving her an affectionate gaze. “But if he didn‘t have McCain ones, he could probably point us to someone who did.” New York was an interesting place to be, that was for sure, and mentioning the famed Naked Cowboy only added to that. He laughed at her reaction, once again rested his lips by her ear. “Oh, it‘s a surprise, but trust me, you‘ll love it,” he said in a teasing, dirty tone.
Smiling, he waved a hand dismissively. “Fine, I will,” he teased, turning back to the hot pink pants. Laughing, he shook his head, rolling his eyes at her faux threatening tone and turning towards the shirts instead. Even if he did enjoy his bright yellow pants, hot pink were a bit much, even for him. Her arms around his waist made him seem to simultaneously tense and relax with her hands around his front. He loved being close to her; sharing a bed with her the past week had only reminded him just how much he enjoyed that and with her arms around him like they were, he wasn’t quite sure what to expect. His expression changed, a bit surprised at her words and he turned to face her, wrapping his arms around her. “Oh, really? And why is it only now that I‘m saying that?” Laughing, he kissed her cheek, leaving his lips beside her ears. “I think I want to hear this explanation.” It had to mean something that they were teasing each other about it, right? At least they weren’t all together avoiding the topic. It felt amazing to be with her and he knew when they did take that step, it would be better than he remembered and though he was nervous about it, now that they were talking about it, even in their joking way, it made him feel a little bit better about the thought.
On their way back to the hotel, they did have a run in with the Naked Cowboy Jason had earlier mentioned and with a little protest from him, he finally agreed to have his picture taken with his fiancé and the man in his underwear. He could tell by the time they arrived back to their thirty-floor story room that Annie was worn out. Even after spending a good part of the day in the car, it had been an early morning and walking the streets was tiring. Leaving his girlfriend to admire the site of the city, he turned to bounce on the bed like he had a few years ago with Dylan. He smiled as Annie joined him on the bed, enjoying the sound of her laughter. As she lost her balance, he laughed as she fell into him, holding her close. “Cartoons!” he squealed like a kid when she said they only had one last thing to try, laughing happily. He was obviously just kidding; he knew what she was talking about. Honestly, he didn’t know if they’d actually get there or not. He was still set on his idea that she should be the one to suggest it; she was the one who had been hurt. Yes, he had been hurt, too, but it was his own fault, not hers.
He glanced at the magazine she had picked up and shrugged, sitting on the edge of the bed and beginning to flip through it. “Someplace sexy? Well…” he grinned, turning to the second page. As she stuck her head out of the bathroom, he tilted his head, a bit confused until she commented on his boxers. Looking down, he laughed, forgetting what he was wearing. “Ah, thanks, I like them, too,” he said with a shrug, still laughing as he rolled onto his stomach. The bed bounced as she sat down beside him and he smiled, rolling onto his side to face her, sliding the magazine in between them. His eyes warmed up even more as she gave him a kiss, sighing as she rested her hand along his chest.
Shifting towards her, he rested a hand on her hip, pulling her closer so they could look through the magazine together. Her question made him chuckle. “Any place looks perfect to me. You‘re going to be there,” he flirted a bit, resting a hand on her neck for a moment, pulling her towards him to give her a kiss. He was about turn the page again before she stopped him, his eyes resting on the beautiful picture with a little smile. “Oh I like that,” he teased as she summed up the information she had read. “And it has a castle for my queen,” he teased, knowing it sounded rather cheesy.
“So Spain, then?” It sounded like fun. And the private beaches were, of course, a plus. “It looks good to me.” Folding down the corner of the page where they saw the information on Mallorca, he grinned and closed the book, setting it on the night stand beside their bed. Turning to face her, he took her in his strong arms, giving her an open mouthed kiss. Pulling his tongue from her mouth for only a moment, he rested his lips beside her ear. “Private beaches and a castle, it doesn‘t get much better than that, especially since it‘ll be just you. And. Me.” His lips curved upwards as he kissed her again, his tongue gliding against hers. He only pulled away when another thought crossed his mind, sighing as he broke off their kiss. “Do we need to get you a passport?”
