Marcello ate the last piece of his slice while Flick beckoned the dogs with uneaten pizza crust. He glanced over his shoulder at the dogs bouncing around happily, as they enjoyed the attention and food. “Yeah, I like dogs.” He said his eyes returning to the girl. “Animals in general are pretty cool.” He always held a liking to creatures – even insects. Something about the world around him interested Marcello, and all the elements that bring earth and life together were magnificent.
“May I ask where your parents are?” He asked politely. He knew it was not his place to ask personal questions like these but her house appeared empty, excluding the ecstatic canines. There were other hints her parents were not home such as her burning the pizza and them not being around, and so forth. As observant as he was, Marcello would not be surprised if he could think of multiple reasons why he believed they were absent.
He closed the pizza box since some mosquitoes were emerging as the sun fell closer on the horizon. It is this late already. Time sure flies when you are eating pizza and talking chitchat. Marcello glanced down the road at his house to see his car in the driveway. His mother and Gabriella were home now so he had an excuse to leave if he needed to leave soon.

She agreed, having several different pets herself. Her dogs, cat and rabbits were all loved by not just herself, but the family. Once the baby was born, she was excited to introduce her young sibling to the animals, who she knew would love the baby. Tugger, her cat, would be the friendliest she assumed. He was fat and lazy, and would probably lay around with the baby all day. 'May I ask where your parents are?' Flick looked up with a somewhat blank expression on her face. It was a common look she gave people, the expression she used when asked a question after having somewhat zoned out. "Oh yeah," she nodded, before continuing. "They went to the doctor's to get a check up and then out for dinner," she informed him with a smile.
It took her a moment to realize he would have no idea why they were at the doctor's. Flick was all caught up in the pregnancy and didn't really stop to think that others didn't know what was going on. "My mom's pregnant," she added after a second, with a smile. "That's why she went to the doctor's." Thin shoulders shrugged up towards her ears then dropped back down. "So they're out a lot, doing things pregnant couples do," she laughed. "Doctors, furniture stores, Home Depot," she chuckled with a smile. Flick didn't mind that he had asked the question, she was sure he was curious why her parents hadn't made an appearance. Looking at her cell phone that she grabbed from her hoodie's pocket, she checked the time, and concluded they would be home in less then an hour. She was usually quite good with predicting those things.
Zipping up her hoodie a little more, she felt the cooler breeze of night once again. It was evening, and even though most nights were hot, there came a time when darkness brought a cool wind to the city. "What about you? You're mom won't wonder where you are?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning against the railing so she faced him on an angle. Flick had remembered that his father hadn't lived with them, so she made sure not to say 'parents'.

((Sorry for not replying - I do not know if you know, but I went into emergency surgery, and it is still hard to type and read. In addition, I am sorry if the post below sucks. :P ))
Marcello sighed silently, truly not wanting to return home. There was only one thing to do, and that was homework. He looked back over at his house. His mother, caught up in carrying in shopping bags, took no notice in where he was. Marcello smirked, “I’m pretty sure she doesn’t mind me being out this late.” Even from this distance, he could see the happy grin on her face after a day of clothes shopping. His mother did not care since he was old enough to be out by himself; however, he figured he should head home soon.
“Should I leave before your parents come home?” He asked. Marcello was unsure if her parents liked the thought of a boy sitting outside the house chatting it up with their daughter this late at night. “We could maybe meet up later sometime,” He added trying not to make his words sound too forward. He had a reason to ask. Flick seemed like a cool person, and since it was so late, they did not have much time to talk.

Flick nodded her head, tucking a stray hair behind her ear once more as she shifted her legs, crossing them together where she sat. It wasn't all that late, but she knew what he meant. Looking at her cell phone that had been insider her pocket, she chanced a look at the time. Her parents would be home any minute. 'Should I leave before your parents come home?' Flick looked up and grinned, since he had practically read her mind. "Yeah, I was just gonna say that," she laughed lightly, uncrossing her legs as she stood up. Her parents were strict about boys, and probably wouldn't be to happy to see Marcello sitting outside on the steps with their daughter. 'We could maybe meet up later sometime.' With a bright and cheery smile, Flick nodded. "Sure, sounds good," she replied. "It's so weird that you've lived here for four months, and we've never talked," she thought aloud, shaking her head. "But it was nice to meet you," she added with another bright smile. "I guess I'll see you later then...?" she half asked, half stated as she leaned her back against the railing of the steps.
As it was, she was glad to have met Marcello. It was another person she could talk to in the survey, and so far, he seemed like a really nice guy. She hoped she could get to know him better in the time that followed.
(ps. sorry it's so bad! i guess we can just wrap up?)

- Yeah, I figured we were running into a dead end. Maybe next time they could meet under different circumstances.
Marcello stood up, stepped down to the last step, and turned back to look at Flick. “Yeah, I’ll see you around,” He agreed, picking up his book bag and slugging it on his right shoulder. “I’d just like to say it was nice to meet you, - Also, thanks for dinner.” He smiled kindly, nodded a goodbye, and went on his way home.
Even though months passed before he met Flick, Marcello had a feeling they would meet again, regardless if they appeared similar on the outside.
