Sighing as she strolled into her small walk-in closet, Day started to go through her drawers that was at the end. She didn’t really care how big or small her closet was-she had her own dorm room and all, so it wasn’t like she had to share. She didn’t mind being alone. Sometimes it was nice, actually. To have some place where you could hang your personal items. Well, she didn’t have many, but she had her mom’s old picture-one that she was really happy in, smiling and looking like her sweet self. Well, what she used to look like anyway. She had a collage of the vase she’d broken when she’d had her breakdown. She couldn’t bear to throw away something that had meant so much to her mother. So she’d hung it on her wall, making her room colors go around the pretty, broken pieces.
She was looking for her comfortable baggy shorts. She was going to play basketball with Jason and Annie, so she wanted to be able to move around easily. So she dug until she felt the jersey material on her fingers. Smiling, she pulled it out and threw it on her bed. Now all she had to find was the shirt that went with it. She was pretty sure that it would be next to it…so she lifted the pile and sure enough, there it was. Happy, she threw it on the bed too. Throwing on a sports bra she put on the outfit, then grabbed her tennis shoes and laced them on. Making sure they were tight, she skipped down the stairs from her third level dorm room and out into the bright, warm day. The sun was shining, she was sure that she’d get a tan, and was grateful that the shirt was sleeveless. Nothing was really worse than a farmers’ tan.
Going to her car, she took out the keys from her pocket and stuck them in the engine. She wasn’t really too worried, but she didn’t want Jason to hurt himself by trying to hard. As she sat in the comfortable seat, she was thankful for her car. She loved it, no matter how much people pick on her about it. The car was by no means the most beautiful or sleek, but it got her from point A to point B, and that was the point. Jason always teased her about it, but she didn’t care. The silver color went well with the black faux leather seats, which looked very real. Well, to her anyway. Plus, it had four doors so she could cart around plenty of people if she wanted to. Turning on some Joan Jett, she turned it up just a little and set the windows down. Might as take advantage the weather while it was there.
As she drove down the road, her worries from earlier in the day sort of came back to her. She hated when she had to see Annie. It wasn’t like she didn’t like her, it was just the love that seemed to envelope them when she was around. It hurt too much to watch. Loving Jason was hard enough when he didn’t return it, and when she had to see him kissing Annie and telling her that he loved her…it hurt her heart in ways she herself didn’t understand, really. Sighing, she focused on driving before she herself would crash. She felt so sorry for Jason, how tormented he was with his accident. She hated seeing him frightened and worried. Shaking it from her mind, she studied the road with more concentration than necessary. She just didn’t want to think about it.
She took a deep breath when she made it to the park. She was surprised that no one was there, but then again, there was a nicer park down the way. But the Liberty Park was mostly deserted. Everyone must have been at Washington. It was nice though, she didn’t have to worry about running into anyone, which she probably would. Smiling as she parked, she saw just the people she did and did not want to see at the same time. Taking the basketball from her trunk, she strode up to them with a big smile and asked, ”Ready to play some ball?” OOC; Comments; Not too horrible for starting, for me at least. Pulling on a pair of basketball shorts, Jason grinned over at Annie, wondering what she was thinking about going to hang out with Dahlia. It’s not like the two had never met before, but things had always seemed a little awkward. Sure, Day was his ex, but she was still one of his best friends. It’s not like he was going to throw Annie out for anyone. Next, he grabbed one of his t-shirts, for once not planning on dressing it up at all, and pulled it on over his head. Glancing in the mirror, he looked over making sure he hadn’t forgot anything important, with his luck, it would be his head he forgot. Bounding out of their bedroom, he nearly tripped down the first step in his excitement.
Making it downstairs in one piece, he laughed, wondering how well that would have gone over if he had fell down the stairs. Waiting patiently for Annie, he sat down at his pretty, white piano and played a few bars of a melody from one of his favorite songs. Hearing her come down the steps, he pushed out the small white bench and stood up a happy look in his dark eyes. He slid the bench back in and strode into the kitchen, hesitating as he reached for the keys to his car. Mentally, he growled at himself. Grow UP. It’s not like you have to go through that intersection, he told himself firmly as his fingers grasped the cold keys firmly. Opening the door to the garage, he grabbed his old running shoes and his smile grew. It had been quite some time since he had used them, first because of the cold weather and then his accident. “Ready?” he asked Anabel, smiling as held the door open for her, climbing in the driver’s seat after she was in, hoping things went better than last time as he put one of his many pairs of sunglasses on.
After pressing play on his iPod, handing it to Annie as a random song came on, he pulled the car out of their driveway, his hands clenching the wheel tightly as they made their way through town. He relaxed a little bit, singing along quietly with her song choices at times. They made it to the park without any major mishaps and as soon as the car was in park, he was back to his hyperactive mood. Getting out of the car, he made his way around to Anabel’s door, opening it for her as he always did unless she beat him to it. Grinning as she got out, he shut the door behind her, locking the Mercedes with the press of a button on his key fob and shoving the key ring into his pocket.
For such a nice day, there weren’t many people in the park. It didn’t really bother him, though, as he looked around for Day’s car. He didn’t see it, so he leaned up against the fence, wrapping his arm around his girlfriend as they waited patiently. Sighing, he felt the sun beating down on him, his blue sunglasses still on his face. He wished he could take his shirt off to play ball; he didn’t really want a farmer’s tan. Well, it wasn’t that he couldn’t take it off, it was that he wouldn’t. He really didn’t want to show off his ugly scar, he hated the sympathetic, pained glances that crossed his friends’ faces when their eyes made their way to his side. Pushing the thought from his mind, he saw a familiar car pull in and he grinned, squeezing Anabel’s waist gently as he pushed away from the fence, heading towards the car to greet his friend.
He opened the driver’s door of Dahlia’s car, grinning as he did so. As she walked to her trunk, he shut her door, staying back as he waited for her, hoping things didn’t get too awkward. Her words made him laugh and he bounded off towards one of the abandoned basketball courts, his arm finding Anabel’s waist again. Grinning excitedly, he stood in the middle of the half-court length area, looking up at the one hoop. “I’m on my own team!” He announced like a little kid, his smile stretching across his face.

Thin French-manicured fingers ran through the young woman's hair as she combed it out. She did not want to put it up, but she didn't figure she had a lot of choice. She had too much hair to let it go everywhere while playing basketball. Frankly the whole basketball thing didn't have her the most enthused. She was not an athletic person in the slightest. Aside from four years of cheerleading in high school she'd never done anything athletic. Occasionally she had gone for a run with Jason before the wreck, but never all too often as she slowed him down with her short little strides and usually ended up wheezing when they showed back up on their doorstep. But no difference; Jason babied her anyway so it wasn't so bad. It would be worse if she had to crawl up the stairs.
Annie turned her head, feeling Jason's eyes on her and gave him a sweet half smile. She was already dressed, sitting on the bed in a pair of cropped sweat pants, a victoria's secret tee shirt, and a little jacket she'd probably fast shed when they got out it the warm May air. She leaned down to grab a tennis shoe from where she was perched on the edge of the matress. She glanced back over at Jason as she slid her little foot into her converse, nibbling her pink lip. Dahlia made her uncomfortable, she wouldn't lie. She was always making cow eyes at Jason and Anabel didn't appreciate it. He was attractive, so it did make sense that Dahlia would look, but it was more than that and that was where she got uncomfortable. Yes, she was a tiny bit possessive, but why shouldn't she be? She knew Jason wasn't one with straying eyes, but that didn't make her any more relaxed with the situation.
It took Anabel a few minutes longer to put her hair up and slip a few little jelly bracelets that she was most fond of on. They didn't really have any meaning, she just liked them. She supposed though if he wanted to pop one of them she would oblige without complaint. She wandered out of their room, finding Jason at his beloved piano and smiled slightly, watching his fingers glide over the keys. He'd taught her to play some, but she didn't have his skill. She watched him as she trotted down the stairs until he looked up from the ebony and ivory keys, his hands stopping as he stood. The look in his eyes as he stood nearly made her stop. He looked so happy to see her and her face matched his in response.
She followed him into the kitchen, missing his hesitation with the keys as she tossed a packet of soap in the dishwasher and set it to run. It was sort of noisy and she didn't like to run it when they were at home. "Yep," she chirped when he asked her if she was ready, picking her favorite pair of sunglasses out of the little basket on the counter and sliding them up into her hair. She followed Jason out into the garage where he had the door to the passenger side open and she smiled, giving him a kiss on the cheek before sliding into the cool leather interior. Buckling her seatbelt she waited for him to slide into his side and settle in to drive. It still wasn't easy for him she knew, but aside from the tense hands and the unwavering eyes he could have her fooled. She took his iPod as he pulled out onto the road, spinning through the artists until she found John Mayer and her favorite single Your Body Is A Wonderland.
Trying to get him to loosen up a bit she leaned across the center console and whispered the title of the song in his ear with an emphasis on the your, kissing his ear and sliding back to her seat where she settled for the duration of the car ride. Annie watched out the window, letting the device pick the next few songs from what John Mayer Jason had. "If he ever comes to Utah we should get tickets," she thought aloud as they pulled into a parking space near the basketball courts. She let him get the door for her and got out, glancing around at the few cars. "Is she here," she asked, having no idea what kind of car Dahlia drived, a ball forming in her stomach. She'd only picked at the breakfast Jason had made that morning. She was on edge and she could only hope she'd eventually relax.
As they waited on her to show up she relaxed against him a bit, nestling her head in the spot between his shoulder and his chest. She had one hand around his waist, her fingers just beneath the hem of his tee shirt. Her eyes were on a three-on-three game on a court adjacent. All the guys had their shirts off, but that wasn't why she was watching. Taking her eyes away she glanced up at Jason, looking a bit pensive, and then deciding it doubtful he would be taking his shirt off. He was even a bit uncomfortable with her still, nevermind anyone else and that was probably for the better. A sweaty half-naked Jason was a delight she didn't really want to share with his crushing little friend. She felt his body shift as a plain little car pulled into the parking lot and she knew who it was as he gave her waist a squeeze and slipped away.
She hung back as he went to her door, opening it for her, feeling just a tiny tinge of jealousy rise up. No, Ana, she thought to herself, pressing it back down with a swallow, Get over yourself. She led the way out to the court, standing with Jason's arm about her waist for a moment, still sort of sizing up Dahlia, waiting to see how they were dividing into teams, leaving his side at a silly little jump and giggling as she trotted over to Dahlia, "Sounds like he wants to lose," she announced. Once she was a bit closer she smiled at her, "Actually, I suck at basketball," she said quietly, "So you can accidentally on purpose get me in the stomach if we're losing. Anything so he doesn't win," she said with a laugh. "I don't want to hear him brag for the rest of the day." Speaking a bit louder and with a smile as she eyed Jason with her adoring blue eyes she kept up the light mood as they began to play, "Hey Dahlia, you remembered the bubble wrap we talked about, right," she called to her. She was going to try for Jason to make things as pain free as possible, no pun intended.

Saying a thanks for Jason when he very gentlemanly opened her door, she smiled at him. His laugh made her smile grow, and finally she looked at Anabel. She really was pretty, someone who could take a stab at your self esteem for anytime. But it didn’t really get Day. She was one of those people who accepted who she was-there wasn’t much you could do anyway, so why worry? Anabel’s face looked a little jealous, she saw when she looked at her. Why would she be jealous? But she didn’t have a reason to be. Day was the one who was jealous-she had Jason, and that was all she really wanted. She smiled at her before laughing at Jason when he said he’d be his own team, and she nodded. ”Fine. That doesn’t’ mean I’m going easy on you!” Sticking her tongue out at him, she looked a little like a little kid herself.
She giggled with Ana when her comment fell on her ears. “Yeah, I think he does.” Smiling, she listened to Ana. “Oh, don’t worry. I’m not going to throw a basketball at you! Well, maybe if you don’t score one.” Nudging her with her elbow gently on the arm, she smiled. “Just kidding-and don’t worry. He won’t win. I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve.” With a mischievous smirk in her direction, she hurled the basketball to Jason, making sure he saw before it hit his face. “OK, let’s play some ball!” Laughing at what Ana said, she nodded. “Can’t forget that, with this clumsy oaf around.” She ducked under Jason, knowing he’d take a swipe, letting a ‘Ah-ha!’ out and shooting for the basket at the three-pointer, making a shot with the backboard. “You better hurry up, Jason, if you don’t want to lose against girls.” She tossed the ball gently to Ana and went to the basket, “Pass!” she exclaimed. When she did, she smiled and scored. She went over to Ana and held up her hand for a high-five, smiling like a kid. “Let’s kick some Jason butt.” When she did, she aimed a kick for it, really only nudging it. Laughing, she gave him the ball and said, “Whatcha waiting for?”
It was fun, and she felt like she got along with Ana pretty well. They played three games, and Day and Ana won two of three. Though one was very close, they still won by a couple of points. She’d laughed and had a good time-it had been fun, getting to know Ana and all. She was pretty nice, really. She hated to admit it, yes, but it was true. Jason really loved her, she saw that, and it pained her heart to see it. But she was happy for him-she obviously loved him as well, with the way they acted with each other. Wiping some sweat from her brow, she huffed a sigh. “What do you guys say to getting washed up and going to eat? I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty starved.” She wanted to keep going-it was really fun. Leaving them to decide a moment, she went to her car and got out three waters she’d packed. Coming back after a moment, she handed them the beverage and leaned against a post. Looking up at the clear blue sky, she turned to the west and saw a deer. She smiled, and siliently got to her car, getting her camera. She zoomed and snapped a picture, smiling. She loved it, there wasn’t anyone who couldn’t see it. While she was at it, she took a picture of a cat as well in a tree. As she did, she sort of lost herself in the landscape. It was very beautiful out, and she always took advantage of the opportunity when it came around.
Sighing, she wondered how she could love Jason still. Why couldn’t she just get over him, like she wanted to? It was true-she really did want to stop loving him. He was happy, and he should just be with Ana. She knew that, but her heart didn’t. It hurt that she had to love him without wanting to. It was hard enough seeing him not love her, and even worse to see him loving someone else. He’d never love her, and she had to face that. But she didn’t want to, at least her heart didn’t. Sitting down on a bench, she sighed and scanned her pictures. She had to stop. Soon, before she completely lost herself. It wouldn’t take long, either, she knew. It was how the story went, in permanent ink which couldn’t be ripped out or changed. She had to go along the book, though she wished she could put it down and start a new one. She couldn’t, so all she had to do now was turn the page. One day the book would be over, and she wouldn’t have any chance at all to redo anything, or try a new page. Might as well start now, she thought. If only I could.

Anabel’s song choice made him laugh and as she leaned across the center council, he raised his eyebrows, giggling as she kissed his ear. She knew how to get to him, that was for sure. Hesitating slightly, he lifted his right hand off of the steering wheel slowly, biting his bottom lip slightly. His hand kind of twitched, resting on the wheel again before making its way over to Annie’s hand, his fingers entwining through hers. It might seem like such a small thing for him to make a big deal out of, but it was a pretty big thing for him. His hand, though off the wheel, was still kind of tense. “Get over it,” he told himself firmly. Two hands on the wheel won’t stop someone from hitting you. Stopping at a red light, he looked at her, smiling. His gaze dropped to their hands and he raised an eyebrow curiously as he noticed her little black bracelets for the first time. “You know, if someone else touches those, they’ll have to answer to me,” he teased, leaning over and kissing her cheek. Pulling into the park, he nodded his head in agreement when she said they should get tickets to see John Mayer. “Yeah, that’d be a great show,” he said, grinning. He’d check online when they got home to see if he had any tour dates up. It was nearly summer, usually the artists announced their tour dates sometime in the spring. Hopefully he could still get them some good seats.
Catching the ball that Dahlia threw at him, he tossed it at the hoop, grinning as it hit the rim before bouncing in, surprising him. He had never been on a team or anything, but when he had played in gym and such, he had been half way decent, though that had been years ago. Way back in his high school days. Sure, he had shot hoops since then, but nothing majorly competitive, just for fun. Besides, after the wreck, he hadn’t really been able to do anything physical for a while. “Ooh! Bubble wrap’s fun!” He exclaimed, grinning, though he knew that wasn’t what they meant. Maybe he would be better off wrapped in it. Hearing Day’s comment, he pretended to pout. “I’m not a clumsy oaf…I’m just clumsy,” he said, throwing his arms out in mock frustration as Day made a three pointer. Taking the ball from her, it bounced off of the backboard and went flying back towards him and he barely caught it. Shooting it again, it bounced off the rim and bounced towards the girls. He ran towards it, sighing as Annie got to it before he did.
He watched the two girls as the three played their game. It was good to see them getting along. He wasn’t going to lie, he had been a little nervous about it at first, with Day being his ex and Annie his girlfriend. Anabel could be kind of protective at times, and though he didn’t mind, he didn’t want her to not like his best friend; they were both important to him. As they played, it was obvious basketball wasn’t his best sport. A clumsy person and basketball didn’t go over too well. He tripped over himself multiple times during their games, nearly falling once or twice. Somehow, he managed to save himself and any major catastrophes were avoided. Only towards the end of their second game did his side start to hurt, but it wasn’t anything bad. Nothing worse than usual. Besides, it could have just been a cramp in his side, not his ribs. That was all it felt like. He didn’t let it slow him down; he kept playing and not letting the girls know anything was out of the ordinary, because in light of recent events, it really wasn’t.
As Day wiped some sweat from her face, he pulled his shirt up out of habit, it was something he did towards the end of a run when he was sweating, and dried off his face before he realized what he was doing, what was showing, and dropped his shirt from his hands, suddenly very interested in the parking lot. He nodded his head in agreement as Day spoke; lunch sounded fantastic. He was a typical guy of his age when it came to the food aspect, he was always eating. The only thing he wasn’t too crazy about was going out dressed as he was, though it wasn’t that big of a deal. He’d survive. “Sounds good to me, how about you, Annie?” As Dahlia walked back to her car, his hand brushed against Anabel’s, grinning as he felt the jelly bracelets on her arm. One of his fingers entwined around one of them and he took a step away from her, swinging his arm back to his side and snapping the band from her wrist. “Oops,” he said sarcastically, smirking as he turned back to face her. It was such a middle school thing, but hey, it was just for fun. Well, maybe not. Wondering where Day had gone to, he saw her standing by her car, putting her camera away. Curiosity over took him; what could she have found to take pictures of? An all-too-innocent look was on his face when she came back, now carrying three bottles and his hands rested behind his back, dropping the broken, black bracelet before taking the water from her. Thanks, he said, grinning. “So, lunch then? I’ll drive so we don’t have to go separately,” he suggested. Save the world one car pool at a time. He glanced to Anabel, hoping she wouldn’t mind his suggestion.

Anabel tried to follow as the game began, but instantly she realized the game was really more between Dahlia and Jason. Which was fine by her; she knew she'd been invited out of courtesy and she really wasn't good at basketball. So she settled back, taking the ball when it was tossed to her and making an effort when it was free for the taking. She kind of hung back from the playful banter after a while, not entirely sure what to say. Dahlia's almost blatant flirtatiousness made her flinch a bit, but what could she do? That was how it was. As a person though Dahlia wasn't terrible she supposed. She could see why Jason liked her. So she showed as much congeniality as she could and tried to make the best of the morning, waiting patiently for an end to little miss perky.
Three games of smiling until her jaw hurt and watching Jason like a hawk as though her eyes could keep him from acquiring some grievous injury later and Annie just wanted to curl up and sleep. She was exhausted after staying up so late last night working on her paper about African American cultural values, trying to get it out of the way so the rest of her weekend was free and playing basketball hadn't helped. Placing her hands on her hips she arched her back letting it pop and then reached up to let her hair done now that their games were over. As she fluffed it back out she glanced over at Jason, eying the part of his stomach that was bare as he wiped his face of the sweat collected on it. She was really a bit surprised he was willing to show that part of him even for a minute, and then she realized he hadn't meant to. Annie licked her lips and hopped into step, wandering over to him and tapping him on the butt with a giggle. "Not hurting too badly, right," she teased him about his defeat, clearly just trying to be a diversion from his embarrassment.
When Dahlia joined them and proposed lunch Annie held back the urge to mumble in Spanish as she had the tendency to do when displeased and nodded to Jason, "Yeah, sure." She sort of shared Jason's concern about her wardrobe, being the vain little thing she was, but whatever. They were all three a sweaty mess so it wasn't that big of a deal she guessed as long as by lunch she meant fast food. Annie yawned, shaking her hair out as Dahlia walked away, feeling Jason's hand brush against hers. She thought nothing of the contact until she felt his finger curl around one of the flimsy bracelets. Raising an eyebrow she turned her head to look at him with an incredulous stare just as he stepped away and pulled, snapping the band. Instantly she burst into giggles at his smirk. Giving a little shrug of her shoulders, a sly smile slipped across her lips, "Fair enough, Mr. Irving," she purred, her eyes holding a slightly lecherous glint.
Out of no where Dahlia appeared with water bottles, a novelty Anabel had completely neglected to remember, and she snapped back to the image of innocence like a Catholic school girl confronted by a nun. "Gracias," she thanked her without thinking, screwing the top off the bottle, and wondering if the other girl had seen or heard their little interaction. Glancing out of the corner of her eye, she watched the black wristband fall to the ground. She swallowed and took a sip of her drink as she ran a hand through her hair, still holding back a giggle. Annie nodded with a pleasant smile at the suggestion, clearing her throat to chase the last bit of humor from her throat. The only thing she was a bit concerned about was getting stuck in the back and completely out of the conversation and far from the air conditioning vents, but someone had to be. She supposed she'd just see how things went. If that was where she was stuck she'd deal with it, or try to at any rate.
